So seriously, this whole getting hitched thing, in the age of the webbertubes is really difficult to manage. First problem - Carrie's email address is firstnamelastname @ gmail. Well, her last name is going to change. Gmail won't let you rename your email account, so that's the first problem. Second problem is that firstnamenewlastname @ gmail is taken. So she has to think of a new email address. I think I got one for her that is a variant, but that's gonna be annoying. Plus, she's gotta figure out how to do the whole migration from old gmail to new gmail, etc. Which would probably be more annoying for me than it is for her, since I store so much in my gmail, but she doesn't, really. Issue the second - Flickr. We both have our own Flickrs. This was fine when we were our own people. But now, we share cameras. So what ends up happening is, all the photos end up on my Flickr. This annoys Carrie, because it makes her Flickr look lame. So the decision is, do we combine our Flickrs? Or create a new Flickr for "the two of us" and keep the individual ones? Or maybe just move our "combined" photos into a Picasa web album and still keep our own Flickrs? Now, the website. We have carriematt.com right now, which is being used for our wedding website. But I'd like to have a site for our new family. Because, one day, it will be more than Carrie and Matt. Of course, all the names I can think of are taken. TheStrattons.com - taken. StrattonFamily.com - taken. Grr. Any advice you guys out there might have for any of these issues? Suggestions for a good domain name for our "family" site? So last night, I ended up going out with Backstreet to celebrate the fact that I maybe probably almost for sure have a new job. We went to the Jefferson Tap for the Thursday night swing dancing debacle. Neither of us had been to that event yet (we'd both gone in December to see the Tom Beeyachski band play when it was still called "Knockouts"). So we were sitting at the bar, and Backstreet says "You know, this is a cool venue...but they need better people." I agreed and said "Yes, it's like they did an experiment and put all the people in the swing scene who annoy me into the same room." Luckly, a bit later, some cool folk showed up and offset the annoyers. Had a coupld cocktails, met the cute bartender (not the one all the girls like, but the chick), and talked to Backstreet about movie stuff. All in all, a pretty fun night. m. *sigh* As some of you know, I run the website for swing dancing in Chicago. The site is completely free. We have a fundraiser every year, but long story short, if you are a band, venue, or instructor affiliated with swing in Chicago, we provide some damn good free advertising for your shit. So I get this email today from a promoter in the scene who pisses me off in general. First of all, I have never seen this fuck at a Black and Tan. We promote the SHIT out of his events, and he has never so much as said "thank you", much less helped support the site (every other major promoter in the city has been most appreciative and supportive). Additionally, on the website for his last big event, he had a page that listed the people/groups that "helped keep swing going"...and Windyhop was not listed. So anyway, I get an email from this jackass this morning complaining about how his upcoming event was listed in our weekly mailing. Basically, he didn't think we put enough about it in the weekly mailing we send (which is a "bullet point" style email...a "just the facts, ma'am" type thing). Never mind the fact that in the calendar there are extensive details about this event...and a huge fucking NEWS STORY on the front page of the site? People like that can go piss up a tree, sideways. (I realize that it may be very clear who I am talking about to some of you, and I will trust your discretion. I also must remind you that the views in this LJ entry are my own, and do not reflect those of Windyhop as an organization.) m. Tags: annoyances, windyhop Current Mood: annoyed

Cable guy is coming in "35-40 minutes". I'll go on the record here and say that by the time this is over today, I won't have cable service. AT&T/Comcast is pretty bad in this building about getting things right the first time; when we set up service downstairs, I explained to the person on the phone that WE needed AT&T, but the rest of the building was RCN, and she assured me that was fine. Of course, the installer comes out, and has no idea what I'm talking about, and doesn't have the right "service order" to do that work, so we had to reschedule. I just get the confirmation call for the service in my new place up here...the guy on the phone says "So does your place got the wires?" And I said "Well, yes, the unit has cable going to the rooms where the TV's are; but the installer will need to change the cabling outside to switch to AT&T from RCN." After several repetions, the dispatcher finally understood what I was talking about, and then proceeded to say "a technician will be there in 35-40 minutes and he'll take a look at it and evaluate." NOTHING TO EVALUATE, MOTHERFUCKER! You guys DID this downstairs about five months ago? Fuckin' cable jerkies. m. Tags: annoyances, moving

Well, I was supposed to get the cable modem installed today. Didn't happen. Here's the story: We have RCN for cable. RCN sucks. At least, their customer service sucks. So we didn't want to add additional RCN services. So we were gonna get the cable modem from AT&T, and eventually switch to AT&T cable. AT&T said this was no problem. So the installer guy comes out today, and says "oh, I'm gonna need permission from your landlord to run a cable for AT&T in here." Of course, after much deliberation, it is determined that if we got AT&T cable as well, he wouldn't have to do anything special. So he tells me he'll come back on Monday, and I should call AT&T and make the cable order. I check with the roommates; they are on-board with switching to AT&T. I call in, and they tell me the earliest that they can get someone out is Thursday. Even though the guy said he'd come back on Monday. Argh. So we'll see what happens. m. Tags: annoyances, moving

...I swear. In the saga of "Matt's Fucking Saab Costing Him a Shitload of Money", here are the latest adventures: 1) Matt gets a $60 parking ticket for an expired city sticker. New city sticker will cost $90. If Matt gets two more tickets, Matt's car will be booted. Removal of the boot will cost $100. If not paid within 24 hours, car is towed, and then cost to recover car is $100 for towing, plus the $100 boot fee. Plus whatever you owe in tickets. 2) Last night, after parking his car in front of the house, Matt realizes he left the windows down. Matt enters car and tries to start it (to roll down windows), and WHOOPS! Key gets snapped off in the ignition. Matt only has the one copy of said key. Matt recovers the other piece of key, and finds out that locksmith will charge approx $85 to make new key. Argh. m. Tags: annoyances, car
